We all knew, the writers included, that Dollhouse was going to be cancelled. So why didn’t the writers take time to write a good ending? I found it hard to stay focused on what was going on from the moment they decided to fast forward ten years at the beginning of the episode. Apparently most everyone in the world has decided to become a doll and there is very little self-awareness in the world. Now it is (still) up to Echo and her previous Dollhouse Crew to try to restore order to the world by destroying the man and equipment that creates the dolls.
I never understood the premise behind the tech anyway. Why would anyone volunteer to have their mind erased and replaced by someone they are not aware of? It would be like going to sleep for 5 years and then waking up. Why would anything be different in 5 years? I would think any issues you had with yourself or someone else that caused you to volunteer to have a brain wipe would still be around in some form or another. The idea was a good one from a writers’ perspective. They could create a new character every week. They could have lovers or fighters or businessmen or pretend wives and husbands. The list was endless.
Eliza Dushku did a great job of portraying the lead Doll named Echo. She also produced the show. I also enjoyed seeing new faces (actors) on Dollhouse and I hope to see them all in something else in the near future.

It has been a busy week for cancellations – first “Eastwick”, now “Dollhouse.” “Dollhouse” got a lucky second chance by avoiding the ax at the end of their first season run, but just could not bring in the numbers after they were moved to the big-competition Friday night timeslot. At least viewers will get to see the remaining episodes of “Dollhouse”, as sporadic as they may be. Josh Whedon stated on Whedonesque.com, “I’m off to pursue Internet ventures/binge drinking. Possibly that relaxation thing I’ve read so much about. By the time the last episode airs, you’ll know what my next project is.”

Fox confirms that Dollhouse will be off the air for the November sweeps. It will return with new episodes on December 4.
Dollhouse is much like Lost – if you don’t follow it from the beginning it is hard to follow the storyline. But luckily all past episodes of Dollhouse are available to watch online. FOX buried Dollhouse on Fridays when most people aren’t watching TV (Friday Night High School football anyone?) and they have not promoted it like they should. History shows that when a show is moved from its regular timeslot to a “new and better” timeslot they get lost in the shuffle. Dollhouse is a fantastic show and one of the best shows on television. Too bad most people don’t even know about it.
Meanwhile, look for Summer Glau (Sarah Connor Chronicles) this Friday, October 30 as she makes her debut as Bennett Halverson in what will be a re-occurring role on the show.

With his horror film The Cabin in the Woods having its’ final wrap on May 29, Joss Whedon turns his full attention to Dollhouse scripts.

According to SCIFI WIRE, the Alpha storyline will be put on hold as actor Alan Tudyk will be filming for the midseason premier of the remake of the scifi classic V. The Alpha storyline will not be scrubbed completely as they expect Tudyk to be able to come back later on in the season. “What about Summer Glau,” you ask? “What role will she be playing?” Whedon states that “the rumors of her becoming a big part of the show are greatly exaggerated.” [Source: SCI FI WIRE]

According to EW’s The Ausiello Files, director Joss Whedon had ideas to move Summer into the Dollhouse before TSCC was officially canceled. But he doesn’t want her to portray a doll. And Summer agrees with him. “I would like to play a normal girl before I die of extreme old age”, comments Glau. They may not have decided yet how to write Summer into the storyline, but whatever is decided you can bet it will be good.
Or, here’s another idea. I have heard there are talks of filming a new Tomb Raider and they need someone to replace Angelina Jolie as Lora Croft. I nominate Summer.

Going to Comic-Con (July in San Diego)?

Then you’ll be able to pick up a special, limited edition Dollhouse DVD boxset – a week before it launches. Plus it’s numbered with a letter from Joss inside, so you get a unique copy. It’s 4 DVDs, containing all 12 aired episodes, (the possibly unaired) episode 13, plus the unaired original pilot episode.
