8:00pm Arrow (CW)

It seems the new shows starring alumni’s from “Smallville” are always being compared to Superman. Why? None of them are remotely similar to the man of steel. First of all, fans of “Smallville” should realize by now this Green Arrow is not the same one that hung out with Superman on “Smallville.” The Arrow character is being played by a different actor, Stephen Amell, not Justin Hartley, which may take a while for some “Smallville” fans to wrap their heads around. But the storyline is the same. Oliver Queen is shipwrecked, presumed dead, somehow returns to his home city of Starling and transforms into the vigilante/super hero (Green) Arrow. Check out the trailer here.

10:00pm Chicago Fire (NBC)

While most sane people run away from dangerous situations such as burning buildings, others are trained to run towards them. Follow the lives of the squad from Chicago Firehouse 51 as they take on dangerous situations head-on.  “Chicago Fire” stars Jesse Spencer as Lt. Matthew Casey, Taylor Kinney as Kelly Severide, and Eamonn walker as Chief Wallace Boden.

10:00pm Nashville (ABC)

When you’re an up-and-coming country music singer and you get the chance to open for one of the biggest country music singers of all time what to you do? Why, you take advantage of it of course and try to steal the spotlight. And that’s exactly what the spunky Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panetiere) plans to do to Rayna James’ (Cinnie Britton).

The Vampire Diaries

8:00pm The Vampire Diaries (CW)

At the end of season 3, the good doctor Meredith took it upon herself, unbeknownst to anyone else, to dispense vampire blood to Elena after she had a life-threatening brain hemorrhage, something the Salvatore brothers had been trying to prevent. Later, when Elena drowns in a car accident, Meredith’s secret is revealed. Now it’s not a question of if, but when and how, will Elena first feed to complete the transformation. She has a lot of help and advice from friends that have been through the transformation themselves. Bonnie, who has honed her witching skills and spells, makes Elena a daylight ring. Bonnie also helped Klaus take over Tyler’s body. In addition to dealing with vampires, both good and bad, the gang is also in their senior year of high school.

9:00pm Beauty and the Beast (CW)

“Beauty and the Beast” have another alumni from “Smallville” as a headline star. Kristen Kreuk who portrayed Clark’s first crush Lana Lang is the beauty half of the “Beauty and the Beast” duo. But this is not the kid’s version of the classic story. The writers decided to switch up the classic story line with the fact that the beast, played by Jay Ryan, is not really beastly looking on the outside. They decided the beast is only ugly on the inside. Not sure this concept is going to work. In general, the public doesn’t react well to having their classic stories rewritten. Check out the fall preview trailer here.

Lucky 13 for Fringe and Fans

fringe walter olivia peterLooks like 13 is the lucky number for Fringe fans, because that’s the number of episodes the show has been renewed for! The producers tweeted out the news on April 26 that Fox’s four-year-old critical fave and perpetual bubble-show was given the green light for a half-season order next fall which will presumably be designed to wrap up the ongoing, alternate-universe exploits of Agent Olivia Dunham and company.

However, executive producer Joel Wyman recently told TV Guide Magazine that "every season finale ends a chapter and begins a new one the next season," so until viewers see what goes down on the May 11th season-ender, who knows what universe, timeline or team they’ll be seeing come September (the month, not the Observer). Still, this renewal gives fans hope that things will turn out OK for Olivia and the Bishop boys. And they’re not alone. When asked about the possibility of Fringe’s final run, Josh Jackson (Peter) states that his "sincerest hope is that when the end comes, that it is a satisfying completion."

What do you think? Are you thrilled that Fringe is getting a chance to tie things up? How would you like to see things end?

One fan (Jokapul) says it nicely, “Shots of cortexiphan all around! Gonna party like its 2036!”
